In 2014 I saw a documentary named, “20,000 Days on Earth.” It was a film about the musician Nick Cave. At the time I was struggling with my writing. It was hard to sit down and get anything on the page.

Nick Cave talked about his own problems with writing. I watched as he spoke about a practice he began when he felt he had nothing to write, which he called, “The Weather Series.” Every day, he would sit and write about the weather, just to make sure he was writing.

I thought it a genius idea and began my own the next day. It started with me writing about the weather but quickly turned into a place where I would write about my life, how I was feeling, and anything else that popped into my head. I have kept it up ever since. Sure, some days I put it off. I once went five months without adding to it but I always picked it back up.

It now contains fifteen hundred entries, each with a minimum of five-hundred words, of my last ten years on Earth.
